Here is an article from Answers in Genesis about the Year of Darwin, written by the Answers magazine editor-in-chief.

Throughout 2009 the world will be celebrating Darwin’s birthday (February 12, 1809) and the publication of On the Origin of Species (November 24, 1859). Meanwhile, Bible-believing Christians have had 150 years to reflect on Darwin’s life and work. What have we learned?

First, it’s important to get our facts straight. Darwin was not a demon or an angel, but a human being like the rest of us, struggling with difficult personal and intellectual questions.

Second, Darwin made some valuable scientific observations and raised some good questions. Scientists are still trying to answer many of those questions today.

The January issue of Answers magazine asked leading minds in creation science to share their perspectives on both Darwin and his book, and to report on the latest efforts by creationists to provide an alternative explanation for the origin of species.

The result could be titled a “Creationist Manifesto for the Twenty-first Century,” a statement of the latest creationist thinking on the origin of species, as well as a revolutionary call for Bible-based science that can change our understanding of the world. We believe these insights should be freely available to teachers, pastors, and students on every continent, as they wrestle with the significance of Darwin’s life and works.

During the “Year of Darwin” and “Darwin Day” celebrations on February 12, our hope is that many souls will dig a little deeper and discover the true Source of Life, whose Book holds the key that unlocks the mysteries of life.

Real Marriage

Real Marriage

As many of you are well aware, California has been slowly deteriorating (who hasn’t) in regard to the issue of marriage. Aside from the fact that it is now legal for homosexuals to be married in that state and be recognized as a ‘real’ marriage, there is now another problem. I was unaware of this change in the state process in regard to marriage until today.

Apparently, California has changed the titles on the marriage license from ‘Bride’ and ‘Groom’ to ‘Party A’ and ‘Party B’. This is utterly ridiculous in and of itself, regardless of what Scripture has to say. Seems as if there were two others who thought the same way and crossed off these two changes and replacement with the true titles Bride and Groom. Unsurprisingly, someone caught wind of it, and California will not recognize their marriage if they left the license in this way. Read the rest of this entry »

Want to know the day of Jesus’ return?

Here is someone who seems to know that the day of Christ’s return is coming, and he even knows the day on the Hebrew calendar that it will happen. All you have to do is watch a two DVD series by Pastor Mark Blitz of El Shaddai Ministries and you will find out, but there is a problem. They don’t know what year it will be in. That is informative! Let me know what day, but don’t tell me if it will happen next week or in the next week two years from now. What utter ridiculousness!

I think there is a reason that the Lord refers to that day as ‘the day of Yahweh’. In 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3, it says, “Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘There is peace and security,’ then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” (ESV) I think that says it all, does it not?

Maybe next they will figure out how to determine the spiritual state of a person based on their past actions toward the world and the church comparatively…

Joel Osteen and his wife

What a privilege! Milwaukee, WI will be hosting Joel Osteen at the Bradley Center (one of the sport complexes of Milwaukee)  in late November. Oh joy! What glory! I can’t wait to be on vacation while they are here. I hope no one shows up! It would do them better not to! Here is his own schedule.

(Maybe he is trying to redefine Thanksgiving in our area…)

Reading the Bible in a Year

The Scriptures

The Scriptures

Reading the Bible within a year is very often encouraged within Christian circles, but unfortunately, many begin such a regimen and later stop because they cannot seem to devote such time to reading the Bible (which is not the priority of many modern Christians). There is a great benefit to reading the Bible in a year as well as a Biblical reason to do so. In Psalm 119:11, is says, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (ESV) If we are to store up God’s Word in our heart, we ought to do so by devoting more than simply a chapter or two a day in His Word, rather we should spend a significant amount of time reading His Word and even using commentaries and other books which help explain the Scriptures we read (ex. John Calvin’s Commentaries or Matthew Henry’s commentaries).

I have done this once before (I am currently working on a different regimen), and I can thoroughly say that I enjoyed it and was blessed by it.

Here is a regimen that you could consider.

Puritan’s Mind Reading Regimen

With all of the news about the political rush for President, I came across this article by Doug Phillips:

Within twenty-four hours of the announcement that John McCain was inviting Sarah Palin to serve as his vice presidential candidate, three things happened. First, the press was inundated with a seemingly endless barrage of announcements from neo-conservative organizations offering unqualified support for the selection of Sarah Palin as a vice presidential candidate. Second, we met Sarah Palin and discovered not only that she is the mother of an infant, and that she returned to politics three days after giving birth, but that she is a feminist (1) who identifies with the leaders of the feminist movement and publicly praises them; (2) who uses the language of the feminist cause to rally supporters; (3) who praises some of the most vicious feminists in history as a means of rallying female voters; and (4) who has embraced the type of lifestyle regarding leadership, career, and children which has long been touted as a feminist ideal.

The third thing we saw was confusion in the ranks of both liberal feminists and neo-con Christians. Both proved their loyalties were driven more by political expediency than principle. Not knowing what to do with a feminist, pro-life Republican vice presidential candidate, feminist Democrats raised criticisms of Mrs. Palin which reflected their own hypocrisy. On the other hand, neo-con Christians performed triple back-flips to justify or overlook behavior and qualification deficiencies in their new Republican candidate that they would found have found distasteful had the female candidate been a Democrat.

On the other hand, there has been a response from the pro-family movement which reflects the historical and theologically orthodox position concerning what the Bible says about the mothers of young children ruling over nations. They are willing to ask the very questions that Rudy Giuliani and Republican apologists are now declaring off-limits: “At a time when the family is in such chaos, when fatherhood is in decline and when godly models of motherhood are so disparaged, what in the world are Republicans doing advocating the mother of an infant special needs child, and other young children, to serve as Commander in Chief?”

Their voices reflect the opinion of many around the country who are asking if the emperor is dressed in the beautiful clothing that neo-cons claim are really there, or whether the emperor is as buck naked as he appears to be. Because their loyalties are not with parties, but with the Church first, foremost, and forever, the analysis of these Christians is more focused on “what sayeth the Scriptures,” rather than “what winneth elections.” Here is a selection of their voices from the blogosphere:
