Emergent Church

January 13, 2007

The Emergent Church is a growing problem in America. To put it short, the emergent church is seeking to reinterpret the Scriptures, and to make ‘Church’ a place to go to relax and enjoy good coffee and have fun. They are acting like the world, and compromising the Scripture’s authority.

Psalm 119:11 says, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”

Scripture is the authority of the Christian, and he ought to glorify God and enjoy Him in all his actions. If Scripture is not the authority, how can Christians be a light to the world? Scripture must be the authority, and the emergent church is not uplifting that goal. Rather, they are tearing it down.

Many will claim that Christians should sped less time accussing and rebuking the brethren and spend time evangelizing and attacking cults. What if the brethren are wrong, and they seek to destroy the very foundation which true Christianity lies upon? If Scripture is removed, we become like the world. The authority of Scripture ought to be most important in our lives.
