DUTIES REQUIRED IN THE FIRST COMMANDMENT (cont.)

“The duty to honour God:

‘A son honors his father,
And a servant his master.
If then I am the Father,
Where is My honor?
And if I am a Master,
Where is My reverence?
Says the LORD of hosts
To you priests who despise My name.
Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’
(Mal. 1:6)

(See also Luke 6:46

The duty to esteem God highly:

Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high,
You who have done great things;
O God, who is like You? (Psa. 71:19)

The duty to believe God:

Thus Israel say the great work which the LORD had done in
Egypt; so the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD
and His servant Moses (Exod. 14:31)

The duty to trust God:

Trust in the LORD forever,
For in YAHWEH, the LORD, is everlasting strength (Isa. 26:4)

The duty to delight in God:

Delight yourself also in the LORD,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart (Psa. 37:4)

The duty to rejoice in God:

Be glad in the LORD and regoice, you righteous;
And shout for joy, all you upright in heart! (Psa. 32:11)

The duty to obey God and submit to him:

‘But this is what I cammanded them, saying, “Obey My
voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people.
And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that
it may be well with you.” (Jer. 7:23)

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee
from you (James 4:7)

The duty to walk humbly before God:

He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humby with your God? (Mic. 6:8)”
