Faith of our Fathers

January 4, 2007

Many people argue that the Founding Fathers of our country were nothing but deists, with no regard for God’s power and might. Nothing could be further from the truth. After lots of study and learning, here are some quotes from some of our founding fathers:

“The principles of all genuine liberty , and of wise laws and administrations are to be drawn from the Bible and sustained by it’s authority. The man therefore who weakens or destroys the divine authority of that book may be accessory to all the public disorders which society is doomed to suffer…” — Noah Webster

We’ve staked our future on our ability to follow the Ten Commandments with all of our heart.” –James Madison

Search the Scriptures! The Bible is the book of all others, to be read at all ages, and in all conditions of human life; not to be read once or twice or thrice through, and then laid aside, but to be read…every day…” –John Quincy Adams

I lament that we waste so much time and money in punishing crimes and take so little pains to prevent them…we neglect the only means of establishing and perpetuating our republican forms of government; that is, the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity by means of the Bible.”Benjamin Rush

By withholding the knowledge of [the Scriptures] from children, we deprive ourselves of the best means of awakening moral sensibility in their minds.”Benjamin Rush

“Man will ultimately be governed by God or by tyrants.”—Benjamin Franklin

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift from God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, and that His justice cannot sleep forever.”—Thomas Jefferson

“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for benefits, and humbly to implore His protection, aid, and favors.”
George Washington

The future of our country depends upon the Christian training of our youth. “George Washington

Without a humble imitation of the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, we can never hope to be a happy nation.”– George Washington

“Be content and resigned to God’s will.”Stonewall Jackson

“It is in the man of piety and inward principle that we may expect to find the uncorrupted patriot, the useful citizen, and the invincible soldier. God grant that in America true religion and civil liberty may be inseparable, and that the unjust attempts to destroy the one, may in the issue tend to the support and establishment of both.”John Witherspoon

If this doesn’t convince you, I can give you a whole lot more by e-mail if you so desire.
